A BC dad in Kamloops wants their school to ban the book, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” because of, in his words, “suicide by gunshot, boyfriend punches girl in the face hard, Grade 4 girl letting boys feel her breast, teenage boy having sex with a dog, and it just goes on and on and gets worse from there”. Do you think that having a book such as this in the curriculum amounts to promoting these activities? Do you think books like this should be banned from school curriculums or libraries? Or do you think that discussing these subjects in a safe environment like school is acceptable for Grade Ten students? Do Grade Ten students have access to materials on sexuality and drugs from other places than school, like the internet? Do they need to talk about difficult issues in a safe environment with their peers ?
